Tea With HT City

As the clock stroked 3.45 p.m. I entered the Hindustan Times Building. With numerous thoughts and expectations my mind was busy guessing what’s gonna be next. Greeted by Ms. Navdeep Kaur Marwah (HT City reporter), she escorted me to the corporate room where all the other lucky fans were waiting for the interaction. Ms. Vaishali Bhambri (HT City Reporter) welcomed us. We had a good little chit chat session with her.

Then as I just turned my head I saw someone entering the room. A lady with a charismatic personality and a big smile on her face, yes you guessed it right, Sonal Mam greeted us all. She is gorgeous and elegant. Her down to earth nature and indubitable soul made me admire her even more. Her very first line “Ohh!! I know them all..they are my friends on facebook” touched my heart. She then briefed us what are we here for (though Rachit just assumed we were there ONLY for a tea). The main purpose was to get first hand information from the readers what they like and dislike about HT city and wanted to know from us any suggestions to make HT city more lively, interesting and interactive.

Next, we all moved to the HT city working area where the all the HT City reporters were anxiously waiting for us (rather I should say we were more excited to give our views to them). The whole session lasted for about 1.5 hours and was a whole lot fun. Kawaljeet Uncle (one of the HT readers) hated bollywood and wanted “what all housewives do in their free time” in HT city. Btao! Ye bhool gaye they HT city ki interaction hai naa ki HT Live ki. But whatever he said (chahe trash hi sahi) it all amused us to the core. Everyone gave their feedback on HT City ( P.S. I proudly say I prefer HT city over Delhi Times).  The young squad of Sonal Mam was really friendly and concerned and related with different people with different age and background energetically. With a boisterous environment around I wished the session never ended.

But I never thought the best part is yet to come, the personal interaction session with Sonal Mam. For fans like us, Sonal Mam’s cabin was a Mecca for us all. From the autograph session to photograph session to aman’s song to Amit’s mausi wali bakk bakk to Sonal Mam’s story how she landed up being an editor, I had a ball. Sonal Mam even spoke to my mom (who is also an avid reader of HT city since its inception) and she just made her day. Everyone mixed up so well with each other as if they knew them since years. I felt I met the best people in town that day and it could be possible only because of Sonal Mam and HT City. Thanks for calling us and I hope you too all enjoyed as much as we did.

P.S.- I didn’t enjoy meeting SRK a few days back as much as I enjoyed meeting you and your whole team.
We all loved the T-shirt and chocolates. Thanks a ton for that sweet gesture

DILLI KI GARMI

Everyone remembers the item number by Amrita Arora swinging to the tunes of "Dilli ki Sardi" but that's a thing of past and this post is about the latest block buster “Dilli ki Garmi” and what should I say, I am loving it, yes I am.

If you think I am crazy, I might well be considering the raw heat, which is taking it’s toll on everyone, the mercury is already playing around at 42 - 43 degrees celsius and I am sure it will go further. But the fact is that, it is hot, it will get hotter and you cannot run away from it. The best way out is to beat the heat, and take it on, and love this challenge.

Now take a look at what “Dilli ki Garmi” has to offer you:
Mangoes : ahaa, I know you love them. Who does not? It’s India’s most favored fruit. This is a peak season for eating mangoes and Delhi markets have loads of them to offer, and the best thing is that as the summers peak, the best varieties reveal themselves. Dusseries will come in June, it’s my favorite variety, and I eat it the ‘desi’ way, it adds to the taste.

Water Melon : Even though mango is India’s most favored fruit, mine is this. And this again is a summer special, I can easily substitute my meals for this delicious red fruit. And someone told me it’s a fruit, which is good for health in summers coz of water content, but I simply love the taste, and the seeds are added advantage.

Air Coolers : Well you only use them in summers, unlike Air conditioners. The air cooler acts as a lifeline, in those weekend afternoons. And where does the Air coolers score over Air Conditioners…. the hint of “bhini si khushboo”, which we Indian’s are so fond of and long for especially in cities like Delhi.
Lassi: Wow the best way to quench your thirst as well as satisfying your taste buds, and add to that the nutritious value of the drink. For me the best part is I can prepare it myself.

Hygiene: Sounds tricky? Let me explain. Well normally in our daily routine we take bath just once in the morning. But the summers make it mandatory to bath twice if not more, which automatically makes us more hygienic. Howazzat!! Well I do it coz I love sitting under the shower, thinking about mangoes and watermelons.

Looks like you already have forgotten the heat of the summer season, as there are so many other things to cherish, and feel good about, some things, which you might not find in any other season. The idea of this post is to send out a message to fellow Delhites and everyone who is facing the ire of nature in form of intense heat. The message is to take the heat in your stride and not get carried away by heat. We can crib about anything, but the fun is in enjoying the challenges thrown at us. So Dilli ki Garmi is a sure shot hit every year and i don't miss it.

IPL- IS MONEY MAKING THE ONLY FOCUS???

IPL is the big daddy of all the leagues played all over the world. With millions of dollars poured into it and teams packed with world class cricketing stars, it's certain to attract huge crowds. Celebrities like Vijay Mallaya, Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, etc owning teams, the attraction is still bigger. Not only this, crores of rupees have been spent on making special ads, music and songs for the teams as publicity package. But IPL from the day of its announcement has remained in the eye of the storm. A section feels that this format of the game would affect test cricket and ODI matches. Others feel that the seriousness of the game is not to be seen, as players are playing for IPL and money making is the focus, both for the players and the team owners.

Not only this, it is felt that IPL would give rise to more such leagues and if not T20, the ODI matches would certainly suffer. Talented players will earn loads of money. In this case it's like market economy; perform and get rewards. So, in the case of IPL, the players who perform continuously, would be paid accordingly. This will give many talented players the opportunity to participate in IPL and earn money. It is a big step towards making the game more professional. But some have a different opinion that only money will drive the players and they will lose focus with their national teams. Is IPL all about glitz and glamour sans the age-old glory of the gentleman's game?

BREAK TOH BANTA HAI !!!

No I'm not referring to the shot movie which my group mates and I made few days back, not even to the cute kitkat commercial, but to a genuine interlude from the much hyped sport- "CRICKET".

Too much of anything is bad for health. But too much of cricket seems to be barely enough. Time was when there used to be reasonable gap between tournaments. Not anymore. It is playtime round the year now. Hardly had the euphoria of winning the world cup subsided the nation is caught in the IPL fever. Does it augur well? The mindboggling money and handsome perks may be a good incentive for the cricketers to play on. But what about the viewers? They surely deserve a break.

IS THE END NEAR????

How seriously should you take the talk about an end of the world 2012 doomsday?

There are a number of December 21, 2012 predictions about the end of the world, earth as we know it. Some say that on an ancient Mayan Calendar 2012 points to the end of the world: they picked December 21,2012 as the exact day because that's when the calendar ends.

Some 2012 predictions, are connected to each other, while some are not. It has got to the point where the thought of 2012 end of the world doomsday is freaking some people out. Should you be freaked? I don't think so. For starters, given past doomsday predictions and prophecies about the end of the world, earth should have ended by now! Since the earth is still here, it will be fair to say then that, to date, all doomsday prophecies and predictions about the end of the world (before 2012) have failed.

However, a WORD of CAUTION. Just because the earth has survived various doomsday predictions so far, it does not guarantee it will still be here in the year 2012, or tomorrow for that matter? Any known threat should be taken seriously. We are a vulnerable planet. The "Greenies" make make some good points about the vulnerability of our ecosystem. While we don not believe any end of the world 2012 predictions will happen,we recognize that there are a lot of stupid, power hungry people who make the earth vulnerable to a doomsday. But not a 2012 end of the world doomsday!

10 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ANNA HAZARE AND LOKPAL BILL

1. Who is Anna Hazare?
An ex-army man. Fought 1965 Indo-Pak War

2. What's so special about him?
He built a village Ralegaon Siddhi in Ahamad Nagar district, Maharashtra

3. So what?
This village is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills.
In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village.

4. Ok,...?
This guy, Anna Hazare was awarded Padma Bhushan and is a known figure for his social activities.

5. Really, what is he fighting for?
He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India.

6. How that can be possible?
He is advocating for a Bil, The Lok Pal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), beurocrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds.

8. It's an entirely new thing right..?
In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr. Shanti Bhushan. Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit thier theft (corruption).

7. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such a short span of time?
The first thing he is asking for is: the government should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed.
Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the LOK PAL BILL. 50% goverment participation and 50% public participation. Because you cant trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.

8. Fine, What will happen when this bill is passed?
A LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Not like, Bofors scam or Bhopal Gas Tragedy case, that has been going for last 25 years without any result.

9. Is he alone? Whoelse is there in the fight with Anna Hazare?
Baba Ramdev, Ex. IPS Kiran Bedi, Social Activist Swami Agnivesh, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal and many more.
Prominent personalities like Aamir Khan is supporting his cause.

10. Ok, got it. What can I do?
At least we can spread the message. How?
Putting status message, links, video, changing profile pics.

At least we can support Anna Hazare and the cause for uprooting corruption from India.
At least we can hope that his Hunger Strike does not go in vain.
At least we can pray for his good health.

YOU ARE MY LIFE

There was a boy in Mumbai who was sent by his parents to a boarding school. Before being sent away this boy was the brightest student in his class. He was at the top in every competition. He was a champion.

But the boy changed after leaving home and attending the boarding school. His grades started dropping. He hated being in a group. He was lonely all the time. And there were especially dark times when he felt like committing suicide. All of this because he felt worthless and that no one loved him.

His parents started worrying about the boy. But even they did not know what was wrong with him. So his dad decided to travel to the boarding school and talk with him.

They sat on the bank of the lake near the school. The father started asking him casual questions about his classes, teachers and sports. After some time his dad said, 'Do you know son, why I am here today?"

The boy answered back, "to check my grades?"

"No, no" his dad replied, "I am here to tell you that you are the most important person for me. I want to see you happy. I don't care about grades. I care about you. I care about your happiness. YOU ARE MY LIFE."

These words caused the boy's eyes to fill with tears. He hugged his dad. They didn't say anything to each other for a long time.

Now the boy had everything he wanted. He knew there was someone on this earth who cared for him deeply. He meant the world to someone. And today this young man is in college at the top of his class and no one has ever seen him sad!

Thanks a lot dad. YOU ARE MY LIFE.

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." - Leo Buscaglia

WHY SHOULD WE APOLOGIZE?

We all make mistakes. Howsoever intelligent we may be, or wealthy, or experienced, we all make mistakes. Sometimes we realize, other times we don’t. But we all make mistakes because we are human. Only God does not ever make any mistake.

Some of our mistakes hurt our interest. They don’t hurt anyone else. But sometimes, we do few things knowingly or unknowingly that hurt others. That is the time to apologize. Why do many of us apologize immediately, and why do many of us avoid it? Why do many of us say sorry even for an insignificant hurt, while some wait for ages to say sorry after committing gigantic blunders? That is a mystery. It all depends upon our thinking, our upbringing, our humility, our sense of right and wrong, and our opinion of others feelings and so on. But do we become smaller by saying sorry? Are we confessing a blunder by saying sorry? Are we hurting our ego by saying sorry? Certainly not.

We rather become better by saying sorry. When we say sorry, we feel good, the other party feels good. By saying sorry, we are not making a mistake of confessing a blunder and putting ourselves to risk of ridicule, but saying that- look here, I made this mistake, and I am very sorry for that. Please forgive me and let us be friends again. An apology makes us a better person by cleansing us of our guilt. Let us all say sorry as soon as we realize that by any act of ours, we have hurt someone even if the hurt is insignificant. If the mistake is bigger, our apology should match it to bring matters back to normal.

Let us apologize at all the times, we make a mistake and make someone happy again and get happiness in return.

ALONE! I CRIED

Alone in the mornings i wake
Alone i sit and stare
Alone i think upon my thoughts
Alone i cry out but no one hears
Alone i pray to be loved
Alone i try to understand why
Alone in the darkness

Alone i feel afraid
Alone im unwanted
Alone i want to be someone else
Alone i share my secrets
Alone sing a sweet song
Alone i watch over my shadow
Alone i sit through the storm
Alone i wish for good things to come

Alone i hope for the bad to go away
Alone i wonder if this is how i will stay

Alone! ' I cried again.
'Alone I am with me!
Lonely in a world of mist
Alone, I reach to touch your wrist
And see if I am thee.’

To be alone beside a soul
Afloat, adrift; an empty ghoul
Alone in woe; the yearning flesh
To fill a thin, contorted mesh
Diffuse atop an icy floor, alone
One day we will die alone why
we have to think so much in
our life.

GIRLS... KEEP YOUR TONGUE IN CONTROL !!!

After having a major fight with my boyfriend last night and then going into a state of introspection, I have realized many things. Specially the things "NOT TO SAY TO YOUR BOYFRIEND". If you are succeeded then trust me you'll have the best relationship ever. Just few good tips to follow:

1) What are you thinking?

*Never ask a guy this. You may be wondering why, girls, but really the guy doesn't need to knowing what he's thinking in his head. Besides, it's probably not anything you want him to be thinking. (eg: You think he is thinking about you, but he could really actually be thinking about the Girl Next Door, lmao)

2) Do you think _____ is cute?

*Freaking ANNOYING. They say, "HATE IT when girls ask me this!" So, girls, don't try to be his buddy if you are his girlfriend? On the other hand, if you are very tight with him then you can ask a question like this. But, if you are  his girlfriend your putting him in a really bad position when you start to talk about other girls with him. Nothing good will come out of this, and the only thing you will do is end up hurting yourself because if he says.. "Oh, she is really cute..." then you will be jealous.

3) Can we talk about "defining" the relationship?

* For those of you who still don't know what define means, the best way I can put it is to "state the precise meaning." So in this case... "Can we talk about the precise meaning of our relationship." Don't ever ask a guy this because it truly puts pressure on them. It's like those used car salesmen who say, "What will it take to get you to buy this car "TODAY?" Seriously, it sucks and it's ugly. It's especially NOT FLATTERING to them and can even make them insecure. Besides, if he has any intention to continue with the relationship, you won't have to ask him this question. Trust me, guys are eager to not lose you if they like you. If they're "truly" MEN then we will be the one leading the relationship. They'll be the leaders.

4) Do you like hanging out with guys more than with me?

*All I have to say is LOL because usually when you girls ask a silly question like this, it's usually not the answer you want. If you ask a guy this, it's like him asking if you like shopping more than him. They have their own lives too, and when you keep barging into their private life then soon they WILL think less of you. Not only this, but everytime you DO ask a guy this, you only dig yourself a hole in his lies. Basically he's trapped. Even though they like chillen with their guys friends, they "literally" have to tell you "no" and that they like hanging out with YOU more. And once again, TRUST ME, they won't feel good about it.

5) Who just called?

*God, this pisses me off sometimes. Get it straight girls, you don't have the right to ask! It's out private business!! Stop trying to control them by controlling their information!! Let them have their own life too. If you give them privacy, we give you privacy. And definitely, if you ask us, we WILL BE INSECURE.

6) Where were you last night?

*To them, it sounds more like an accusation than curiousity. If they want you to know, they will tell you, if not, then live with it...it's not the end of the world! *TRUST* is the key ingrediant. When you trust someone they want to live up to that trust. So no asking him "leading questions" because remember, guys are the "leaders."

AND LAST BUT NOT LEASE...
7) Why don't you call me more often?

*ooooo, i get this one a lot. Remember, everything that behings with "why don't you" is unacceptable! You put them on the defensive with this kind of accusation. It tells them that they aren't good enough for you. As if, they aren't meeting you "needs." Let me help you girls of trap17 out tho...a better way to ask this question would be, "I really love it when you call. It's fun talking to you on the phone." This is a positive way of asking the question, and you will most likely get a possible reply back.

VIRGIN MOBILE - THINK HATKE, BAAT KARO AB DATKE !!!

As the virgin mobile phones claims to think hatke, so are their call plans, absolutely hatke. I was totally hooked to the advertisement to see what new schemes now virgin mobile had to bring fore for the audiences. And after looking at the plan of 30 paise/min local and 50 paise/min STD, I was like wwwooooowwwwww. This is a kind of prepaid plan I'm sure everyone would love to have, specially for the one's who worship their mobile phone so religiously and for whom cell phone is their companion in their deserted room in the dark. Plus the USP is that you don't need any special pack for this.

The advert conveys the message in a very clear cut form. A guy after being caught in an awkward situation he has  to talk to his girlfriend to clear all the misunderstanding, so for this he needs a virgin network because the calling rates are cheaper. Witty ad indeed.

ERASE IT AND CHANGE IT TILL YOU GET THE DESIRED "CHANGE"

Misinterpretations are a part of one's life. But the one showed in the commercial is so hilarious. The boss is perhaps asking for a change in the company's policies and strategies and the employees misinterpret them as change (loose money).

Camlin has made an exceptional ad with a brilliant idea, that whether the employees interpret him right or wrong, the boss has the option to erase whatever he has written with easily erasable white board. The message is given in a precise and crystal clear manner and thereby making a greater impact on the audience.

PAPPU CAN ASK SAALA !!!

A simple, clear and a crisp advert. HIV/AIDS is the deadliest epidemic in our time. Over 22 million people
have already lost their lives, and more than 42 million are currently living with HIV/AIDS.The epidemic has not only killed people; it has imposed a heavy burden on families, communities and economies And it is also true that people are still so apprehensive to talk about it openly with everyone. HIV/AIDS is considered a taboo in our society.

Many people do not have information about AIDS and hence they even develop notions that AIDS can spread with a mere handshake or a hug and therefore they discriminate against them and shrug off shoulders from them.

In this commercial, which is in public interest, it accurately shows how one can clear all his doubts regarding AIDS  by sending a single message to 7827. Now Pappu does not necessarily go to his Papa to ask everything because now AIDS queries is just a message away.

BEAUTIFUL CAN BE DANGEROUS, CHOOSE WISELY

think Education Times (TOI) has hit a right note with the audience with this commercial. Well, this situation actually holds very true in today's world. With a single wrong decision you can land up in a trenchant situation.

I found this ad very inspiring. The basic message that education, or to be more precise, "the right kind of information" is indispensable to everyone. Without the right kind of information, we are ought  to make wrong decisions which we regret later. Like the example they have given in this ad, a beautiful girl with high qualification joins men's salon. She could have joined a beauty parlour. This is simply like, Katrina Kaif working at a roadside  dhabba. I know that sounds something bizarre but so does the idea of working  a beautifully talented girl in men salon.

So, it's better to choose wisely. Remember "Information is the seed for an idea, and only grows when it's watered" - Heinz V. Bergen

SEARCH GETS MOBILITY

Truly an amusing advertisement. Hutch (which is now Vodafone) ads are always a far cry from the regular ones. Till the last moment of the commercial you do not realise what the ad is all about. If one can get Eskimos walking into the living room with one click , it clearly brings out the power of mobile competing to get what information you want where you want .

The idea is all about bringing the world closer to you with just a click. Now the entire world is in your pocket. With msn hutch gives the internet services to the GPRS users. Information is probably the biggest advantage internet is offering. The Internet is a virtual treasure trove of information. Any kind of information on any topic under the sun is available on the Internet.

JAAKO RAKHEY "CAMLIN" MAAR SAKE NAA KOI

Earlier whenever there was any commercial on television, I used to hastily swap the channels because I hated all the commercials. I thought they were simply a waste of time. But now-a-days I find commercials even more entertaining than all the saas-bahu sagas and reality shows and what not. Just take the example of this advert, Camlin permanent markers. I was dumbstruck to see how creativity is taking all over the advertising world.

The ad is very witty and shows up our Indian culture as well. The ad has targeted the beautiful bond of husband and wife which is as permanent as the camlin markers. The Indian women can strongly relate to this ad as for them vermilion mark means everything.

The concept is so dazzling. When the kins gather to condole and wipe out the sindoor, but it wouldnt go off as they had made it with permanent camlin marker and the husband has to come back to life. In the end one can't help but simply laugh out loud.

USE BRAINS, INSTEAD OF GLYCODIN

No doubt it is a delightful ad. It has a witty quotient which entices people towards the product. But, the question arises, are we, "THE INDIANS" are living in such a scenario where still the society is living in a superstition dominating phase ??
This advertisement shows that the family worships their guru just like God and without using their brains they kept their child's name uuuhhhuhhuhh (coughing sound). Well, on that note, according to me they don't need "glycodin", they simply need brains. In my opinion our society has come a long way and they are no longer dependent on such silly superstitions. Society has been changing very rapidly. Let's not compare now with several hundred years ago, because there are so many changes in all aspects of daily life.
People are much happier than in the past by living without all the superstitions and beliefs.
